Lineker reacts as new footage of Salah and Moyes emerges after West Ham v Liverpool incident. Gary Lineker has reacted as Mohamed Salah and Jurgen Klopp had a heated conversation just moments after West Ham had equalised v Liverpool.
The Hammers welcomed the Reds to the London Stadium with the away side needing a win to maintain their title challenge. Jarrod Bowen opened the scoring before Andy Robertson and an Alphonse Areola own goal put the away side 2-1 up.
Klopp looked set to make a triple change just as Michail Antonio headed home Bowen’s cross. What followed caught the eye of Lineker and Alan Shearer on Match of the Day (28 April).
Lineker said: “Another messy situation we saw between Mo Salah and Klopp at the end of the game. He’s left him out obviously and there’s clearly a spat going on.”
Shearer replied: “We don’t know what Klopp has said to him. He’s said something that’s riled him up. He’s obviously got the right hump for being left out, and rightly so.
“He shakes hands with David Moyes and ignores Klopp. He gives Liverpool fans a round of applause and goes straight down the tunnel. I understand if he’s got the hump. It’s a shame.”
How did Michail Antonio perform for West Ham v Liverpool?
The Hammers’ striker goal came before the clash which caught the attention of fans and pundits alike after the game. The manager and his star player kicked up a fuss which saw Darwin Nunez step in between the duo to stop the confrontation.
This spat took away from what was a well-worked and expertly finished West Ham goal which drew them level.
The forward deserved his goal after some great defensive work throughout the game. This helped stop Liverpool from building from the back.
West Ham United attacker Michail Antonio has faced injury woes. According to FotMob, he won 100 per cent of his ground duels while also winning 50 per cent of his tackles and two recoveries.
He didn’t have much of a chance going forward throughout the game. Antonio had just 24 touches of the ball with just three of those coming in the Liverpool box.
He took his goal with aplomb which would have been difficult given his lack of attacking influence before that point.
A quiet performance but a goal-scoring, point-saving performance nonetheless.
