‘Never happened before’ – Pundit makes ‘Massive’ Moyes claim live on BBC

BBC Sport pundit makes David Moyes claim live on air ahead of West Ham United clash vs Arsenal

Charlie Adam says conceding five goals twice in quick succession is “massive” for David Moyes at West Ham as it is something he has never experienced.

The Irons went down 5-0 away at Fulham in the Premier League on 10 December and were beaten 5-1 away at Liverpool 10 days later in the EFL Cup quarter-finals.

West Ham have since responded to the heavy loss at Anfield with a 2-0 win over Manchester United, but that has not stopped questions being asked over Moyes’ future.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live [27 December, 10:07pm], Jermaine Beckford said: “One of the things with Moyes that will leave him disappointed is the amount of goals they’ve conceded.”

In reply, former Rangers and Liverpool midfielder Adam added: “The two fives they’ve conceded has never happened before in a season [for Moyes], so to have that happen twice in a season is massive for him.”

    Back-to-back clean sheets

Moyes prides himself on making his sides tough to break down, which is why the heavy defeats to Fulham and Liverpool were so hard to take.

The Fulham result seems like a bit of a freak on reflection, whereas the Liverpool loss was particularly frustrating due to the line-up named.

If Moyes is going to name a weakened XI against one of the best teams on the continent, there can be no complaints when things go wrong.

What should be said, though, is that West Ham have kept back-to-back clean sheets in the Premier League in wins over Wolves and Man United.

For all the negativity, United are in good form in the top flight and head to Arsenal on Thursday (28 December) with hope of getting a positive result.

You can rest assured that Moyes would have drilled every one of his players over the past few days to ensure there is no repeat of the Fulham and Liverpool debacles.
