Neil Lennon gushes over ‘incredible’ West Ham star amid ‘schoolboy’ Wolves verdict

Neil Lennon was stunned by West Ham and James Ward-Prowse after his goal directly from a corner in the 2-1 win v Wolves – although he labelled Jose Sa “schoolboy” level.

The former Celtic boss was wowed by West Ham’s turnaround in the second half after a frustrating first-half performance, insisting the Hammers were “absolutely excellent”.

He also went on to explain that Michail Antonio had made the difference coming off the bench as he caused all sorts of issues for the Wolves defence.

Speaking live on Sky Sports News [18:44], Lennon gushed: “Incredible, West Ham. They’ve been absolutely excellent in the second half. Talk about a game of two halves.

“This is something you very rarely see, it’s Ward-Prowse [scoring] straight from a corner.

“It’s quite windy out there but Jose Sa completely loses the flight of the ball, it goes over him and into the far corner. That’s something you see in schoolboy football, you don’t see it at this level.

“Incredible turnaround for West Ham. Antonio has been the difference, he’s terrorised Wolves in this second half.”

If the 4-3 defeat to Newcastle came as a result of David Moyes’ questionable substitutions, then the boss deserves plenty of praise for his decisions at half-time against Wolves – particularly the call to bring Antonio on.

As Lennon explained, the striker was pivotal in inspiring the comeback win and allowed the Hammers to be much more expressive going forward. It was, overall, a fantastic display from West Ham.

However, the turnaround victory has been somewhat overshadowed by a controversial VAR decision which saw a late Max Kilman header ruled out for offside, much to the frustration of Wolves supporters who could not understand the call.

Jason Cundy and Jamie O’Hara argued about the decision live on talkSPORT, with O’Hara insisting decisions like that one are ruining the game while Cundy insisted that, by the letter of the law, he was offside and the goal was rightly disallowed.
