Moyes’ comments after 2-2 draw surely point to £100k-a-wk Hammer being dropped after IB

David Moyes’ comments after 2-2 draw surely point to West Ham striker Michail Antonio being dropped

Michail Antonio made a surprise start for West Ham United against Newcastle United in the Premier League yesterday afternoon.

It was surprising for two reasons – 1) Michail Antonio has been out injured over the past week and 2) the encouraging form of West Ham new-boy Mohammed Kudus led everyone to believe that he would be handed his first Premier League start for the club.

Hammers boss David Moyes is a huge fan of the 33-year-old, and it’s little wonder as to why. The forward has bagged 48 goals for West Ham since the Scot took over the club for the second time in December 2019 (Transfermarkt).

The Hammers striker actually made a decent start to the season. However, he has gone off the boil recently. And the impact made by Kudus now surely means only one thing for Micky…

David Moyes’ comments after Newcastle clash surely point to West Ham striker Michail Antonio being dropped

The Scot addressed the media yesterday after our 2-2 draw with the Toon at the London Stadium.

And Moyes responded when asked by reporters to share his feelings on Mohammed Kudus, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“I thought the substitutes today made a bit of a difference, especially Mo who gave us a different impetus and obviously then got us the equalising goal as well, which helped us. We had our moments and we got a bit from it when we played a bit better with the ball in the last 15 minutes, and Mo helped us in that situation, and we worked a goal, so we were pleased.”

Antonio, who earns around £100k-a-week (Give Me Sport), wasn’t anywhere near his best against Newcastle yesterday.

In fact, he hasn’t been on top form in quite some time now, and it’s time for Kudus to come into the side on a regular basis in place of the Jamaica international now.

David Moyes highlighted above just how much of an impact Mohammed Kudus had for West Ham against Newcastle yesterday, when he came on in place of Michail Antonio.

He seems to have absolutely everything needed to play that role but equally, he could be used anywhere along the frontline or even in midfield.

The Ghanaian playing in the false 9 position for the Hammers going forward in place of Antonio is surely now an option that Moyes cannot ignore.
