Massive setback for Tottenham: Star player could be out for longer than expected

Tottenham receive massive setback as James Maddison is now expected to be out for longer than initially expected.

James Maddison has been one of the signings of the season. He joined Spurs from Leicester City for £40m and has proven to be an absolute bargain.

He quickly became a fan favorite scoring 3 goals and 5 assists in just 11 games.

His brilliance was instrumental in Tottenham’s unbeaten run of 10 games, propelling them to eight wins and two draws until their clash against Chelsea which marked their first defeat.

It also derailed their terrific start as two key players, Maddison and Micky van ve Ven suffered long-term injuries.

Initially presumed a precautionary substitution, Maddison’s injury proved more severe than anticipated, sidelining him for an extended period.

Initial reports speculated a January return; however, recent updates from The Athletic (via The Spurs Watch) suggest the setback might delay Maddison’s comeback until February due to an ankle injury sustained during the Chelsea bout last month.

Expressing his frustration in a recent interview, Maddison lamented the severity of the injury, admitting that it is the longest injury he’s faced in his career.

He told Ben Foster on Amazon Prime Video Sport:

“This is probably the longest [injury] I’ve had, if it’s, say, three months, I’ve never really gone past that. It’s frustrating.”

This could come as a big blow for Spurs who were expecting him to be back by January.

Yet, in adversity, opportunity surfaces. Giovani Lo Celso has seamlessly filled the void left by Maddison’s injury, netting two stunning goals in as many games, showcasing a remarkable display in the midfielder’s absence.

While Spurs face a challenging period without their star, the emergence of Lo Celso offers a glimmer of hope.
