MANAGER SPURS CONSIDERED APPOINTING NOW BOTTOM OF THE LEAGUE

Tottenham Hotspur were linked with appointing Bo Svensson over the summer but he is now struggling with Mainz.

Bo Svensson is under increasing pressure at Mainz just months after Tottenham Hotspur considered a move for him.

Tottenham needed a complete reset in the dugout following Antonio Conte’s departure.

Cristian Stellini took over but that stint was pretty brief before Ryan Mason saw out the season.

The last few years had been a complete mess with Tottenham failing to find any kind of identity on the pitch.

Ange Postecoglou ended up being Tottenham’s choice and that looks like a masterstroke so far with the Australian earning plaudits from all corners since his move from Celtic.

Bo Svensson in danger after Tottenham Hotspur links

Spurs are delighted with Postecoglou but they did consider other options such as Bo Svensson.

ESPN reported in May that Tottenham were considering a move to bring Svensson in from Mainz.

The Dane had been in the Red Bull setup before taking over as Mainz boss in January 2021.

Svensson had largely impressed in charge of the Bundesliga club, securing 8th and 9th place finishes.

This season is all going wrong though as Mainz have lost four of their opening five Bundesliga games, claiming just one point.

Mainz now sit bottom of the Bundesliga table and Svensson will be under immense pressure if he doesn’t turn things around.

Other Premier League clubs have targeted Svensson

It’s early days in the season and Svensson of course has plenty of time to change Mainz’s form.

This feels like a real blow for Svensson though as his reputation has been building and building before this problematic run of results.

Tottenham haven’t been alone in considering moving for Svensson either.

The Athletic reported last year that Brighton and Hove Albion were seriously considering Svensson to replace Graham Potter.

Roberto De Zerbi took the job and has taken the Seagulls to another level, becoming one of the most exciting coaches around.

The Athletic added that Svensson held talks with Wolverhampton Wanderers as they moved on from Bruno Lage.

Svensson was linked with all three Premier League jobs but will now have to turn Mainz around if he is to receive that kind of interest again.
