Manager left seriously impressed by ‘outstanding’ Tottenham youngster in League Cup last night

Port Vale boss Andy Crosby has singled out Alfie Devine for praise after the Tottenham Hotspur youngster’s display in the League Cup last night.

Alfie Devine joined The Valiants on a season-long loan deal over the summer and has impressed in League One after leaving Tottenham.

The youngster fired Port Vale into their first-ever Carabao Cup quarter-final on Tuesday evening with a superb strike against Mansfield.

The 19-year-old picked up the ball just outside the centre circle and drove towards the edge of the box before unleashing a powerful shot into the bottom corner.

His effort proved to be the difference between the two sides at Field Mill last night and it’s fair to say Devine has impressed his boss Andy Crosby.

Port Vale boss left impressed by Alfie Devine’s latest display

Speaking to Chad after last night’s historic win for Vale, Crosby singled out Devine for praise.

“We had to put our foot on the gas and go again and it was an outstanding goal by Alfie Devine,” the Vale boss said. “It was well executed and a great finish

“My first season as a manager has been a rollercoaster. But I will be consistent and I want us to try to develop a style, play through teams and dominate the ball and stick together through the tough times.”

Devine has already racked up 15 appearances for the Valiants this season, registering six goal involvements in the process.

The Spurs youngster looks set to have a bright future ahead of him and has already trained with England’s senior team this season.

It’s clearly benefitting Devine to be out on loan and gaining valuable first-team experience.

He impressed for Spurs in pre-season before Ange Postecoglou ultimately decided to send him out on loan.

Devine netted a stunning overhead kick goal last time out for Vale in League One and he has now scored in consecutive games.
