Man Utd and Tottenham to ‘miss out’ on deal with same club in fresh transfer twist

Manchester United and Tottenham could be handed a transfer blow by the same club. Both Manchester United and Tottenham could be about to suffer a blow in the transfer market by the same club, as Serie A outfit Genoa finalise their moves in the window. Both Premier League giants hope to raise considerable sums to help fund further signings, with the duo likely encountering busy deadline days.

Genoa are looking to add another midfielder to their options by the end of the week and have eyed both Tanguy Ndombele of Spurs and United’s Donny van de Beek. The English sides are keen to offload both players as neither have made the desired impact since their moves to the Premier League.

Italian outlet Di Marzio claimed that Genoa and Spurs had reached an agreement to send Ndombele to the club, but the Frenchman needed more convincing of the move and the deal stalled despite him being frozen out of Ange Postecoglu’s side – having not played a single minute of football this season.

Genoa remained interested in Ndombele but without a green light from the player, as he wants to play in the Champions League, they decided to instead look at Van de Beek after the Dutchman’s move to Real Sociedad broke down, making an attempt to sign the 26-year-old temporarily. But that deal also looks unlikely and instead of Spurs or United offloading one of their forgotten men, Genoa are now more likely to sign Galatasaray midfielder Berkan Kutlu having failed to land Ndombele or Van de Beek.

United have been keen to move their Dutch playmaker on, having failed to impress Erik ten Hag as the boss looks to bring in another midfielder before the window closes – with both Sofyan Amrabat and Ryan Gravenberch the likely targets. The Red Devils also have to be mindful of Financial Fair Play and getting Van de Beek’s wage and a loan fee certainly would have been appreciated as the club plans for three more additions.
