Director of Football drops majorly concerning Niclas Fullkrug bombshell that will worry West Ham fans. Some worrying comments have just been made about West Ham United striker Niclas Fullkrug.
West Ham hitman Niclas Fullkrug suffered a huge injury blow last week, whilst away on international duty with Germany.
The injury really was terrible timing for Fullkrug and Julen Lopetegui, after the Spaniard had just been hand-fed the solution to the German’s problems, when he a scored for his country during a 5-0 win over Hungary. Fullkrug was surely in line to start for the Hammers away at Fulham on Saturday, had it not been for his Achilles injury.
His start to life with West Ham has been a hugely stuttering one, and he’s now under real pressure to succeed with us. Many fans and pundits questioned the Hammers’ decision to pay just over £25 million for a striker who’ll be 32 in February, and to hand him a four-year deal!
Right now, it seems like those questions were more than valid…
Niclas Fullkrug revelation will worry West Ham fans
The German suggested that his exit from Borussia Dortmund in the summer came about out of the blue after they signed Serhou Guirassy.
Fullkrug claimed that he wouldn’t be first choice striker anymore, so the chance to join the Hammers became very appealing to him. It was also claimed that the 31-year-old was’ irritated’ with Dortmund’s decision to sign Guirassy from Stuttgart (BVB Buzz).
And it seems as though Fullkrug’s lack of desire to compete with Guirassy for playing time eventually led to his switch to the London Stadium.
When speaking to Sport Bild, Borussia Dortmund director of football Sebastien Kehl clearly took umbrage with Fullkrug’s recent comments about his exit from Signal Iduna Park.
Kehl said, “I naturally spoke to Fülle before the Guirassy deal and also told him that we would do something in this position and showed him, just like the coach, the perspective.”
“He then started to think. He would have been in a competitive situation that he himself did not want to take on.”
“He will get a slightly longer-term contract (from West Ham) and perhaps a slightly better perspective in one or two places. He has always behaved correctly, and I think we have too. Nothing sticks.” That second paragraph is hugely concerning to me.
Niclas Fullkrug a big worry for West Ham
If he’s not the kind of striker who likes competition for his place, then we could be in real trouble this season. Without the competitive drive, there’s absolutely no hunger to succeed. I have to say, the signing of Niclas Fullkrug is beginning to look worse and worse for West Ham with every week that pass.
The Hammers could have signed the electric Jhon Duran from Aston Villa in the summer, had the owners offered just £5 million more. Missing out on the Colombian now looks like an absolute disaster. He’s clearly the real deal.
Hopefully Fullkrug will come good for West Ham this season, but I’m hugely concerned about him, I have to say. It’s still very early days of course but considering the fact that he was given a four-year deal, I think we might have made a big mistake.
