Tottenham Hotspur suffered yet another defeat in the Premier League, this time against Chelsea.
The North Londoners have had a shocking season. They have lost 16 of their 30 games in the league – this is the first time that has happened since 1977.
Chelsea only won 1-0 on Thursday night, but they could have and probably should have scored a few more in the first half to kill the game.
Not many Tottenham players can hold their heads up high after the performance at Stamford Bridge. Jamie O’Hara is far from happy with one player in particular.
Jamie O’Hara blasts Son Heung-min after Tottenham lose to Chelsea
Son Heung-min has had a difficult season at Tottenham.
The South Korean had a good campaign last term – he directly contributed to 27 goals in 35 games in the Premier League under Ange Postecoglou.
Things have been very different this season. Son has scored just seven times in the league, and he has looked nothing like his usual self. But, his manager still keeps starting him regularly.
Against Chelsea on Thursday, the Spurs skipper struggled once again, and like most of his teammates, he just did not do enough to help his side.
O’Hara, who has been critical of Son before, once again had a go at him after Tottenham lost at Stamford Bridge.
He said on talkSPORT: “Nothing. He has done nothing. I’ve been saying it for a while. What I’ve said about him is he’s a squad player.
“For one, he isn’t a captain. He has never been a captain, ever. He’s just not. He’s a player who leads by example and he has done that in the past. But, he isn’t good enough no more. He can’t beat a player, he has got no sharpness, he doesn’t go past people, he doesn’t make a difference.
“You see Cole Palmer tonight, he wants to get on it, he wants to make things happen, he’ll take risks with the ball. Son – I’ve been saying it, and I got a load of stick for South Korean fans. That’s the problem, we’ll keep him onside because he brings people through the door
“But, let me tell you, he isn’t the player for us. He isn’t the player he was.”
Son Heung-min’s stats vs Chelsea are so disappointing
Despite the poor season he has had, Son is still Tottenham’s best player.
On his day, the Korean has what it takes to win games on his own, and he has proven that on a number of occasions over the years.
However, O’Hara may just be right, Son is no longer the player he once was, and his numbers against Chelsea show that.
Son is so much better than the numbers he produced against Chelsea, and we’re sure he will be really disappointed with his performances this season.
The South Korean will turn 33 this summer, and it’s clear that he is no longer the superstar player he once was.
Reports have claimed that there is an openness at Tottenham to sell Son this summer if a good offer arrives. That may well be the best thing for all parties involved.
