Gabby Agbonlahor says the Leeds United fans must be ‘fuming’ amid suggestions that Tottenham Hotspur transfer target, Wilfried Gnonto, is refusing to play for the club.
After Leeds United’s relegation to the Championship, Wilfried Gnonto has watched many of his teammates leave the club, mainly on loan, and sign for teams in the top-tier, whether it be in England, Germany or Spain.
As a result, in order to force a move from Elland Road this summer, the 19-year-old is refusing to play for the club and Agbonlahor can’t believe it because he is supposed to be a ‘fan favourite’, as he told talkSPORT (17/08/23 at 8:45 am).
A host of Premier League clubs are keen on the all-action winger, including Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur joining Everton in the race to secure his signature before the close of play on September 1.
This will only add fuel to the fire because the player would be aware that the interest is there from Premier League teams and not just from one team, but from a few, as you could also add Unai Emery’s Aston Villa to that list.
Given the saga around Gnonto, former Aston Villa striker Agbonlahor shared his thoughts on the situation, as he doesn’t think there is a way back for the teenager.
“Did any of your teammates when you played say they aren’t going to play, with what’s happening at Leeds now,” Agbonlahor asked Danny Mills about Gnonto.
“He is a fan favourite, though, isn’t he, Gnonto?! And to do that, they must be fuming the Leeds fans.
On Leeds putting their foot down with Gnonto and not selling him: “All the best, he isn’t coming back and playing for Leeds.”
Should Leeds sell Gnonto?
Daniel Farke has walked into a mess and he is the one, whether Gnonto leaves or not, has to clear it all up by the end of it.
His team haven’t made the best of starts in the Championship and this situation around Gnonto isn’t going to help.
But should Leeds just let him go? Or be very stubborn and keep him on board? Back in January, Paul Robison described the Italian as as ‘special talent’ on Twitter.
If the Yorkshire outfit were to keep hold of him, and he were to put his head down and perform, then he could be the difference in earning promotion or not, so it’s understandable that the club is taking such a stance.
