Kalvin Phillips’ West Ham spell descends into an absolute farce after new update

Kalvin Phillips spell at West Ham United descends into an absolute farce after new update. West Ham United signed Kalvin Phillips on loan from Manchester City in the January transfer window.

Kalvin Phillips arrived at West Ham with a big reputation as one of the best holding midfielders in the country.

However, things really haven’t worked out well for him at the London Stadium so far, and a recent claim suggested that he will not be signed permanently in the summer.

David Moyes has Edson Alvarez as his main defensive midfielder but even when the Mexican has been unavailable, the Scot hasn’t turned to Phillips – the games against Newcastle and Tottenham being a prime example of this.

Kalvin Phillips spell at West Ham United descends into an absolute farce after new update

The Man City owned midfielder has looked nowhere near fit enough since moving to the London Stadium. Before he joined us, he hadn’t started a Premier League game since May, so it’s no surprise really is it.

The thing that has really annoyed the West Ham fans is his perceived lack of effort when he’s put on the claret and blue shirt on so far.

He just doesn’t seem to be that interested, and the way he reacted to criticism from a fan up at St James’ Park did him no favours whatsoever.

Now things have just gone from bad to worse for the 31-capped England international…

Another blow for West Ham United’s Kalvin Phillips

The 28-year-old has endured a truly disastrous time in East London so far. His Hammers spell got off to an awful start with a shocking debut against Bournemouth back in February, but things haven’t got any better since then.

He was sent off during our defeat to Nottingham Forest a couple of weeks later, and his all-round performances were dreadful.

All of that culminated in his poor display up at Newcastle when he came on as a second-half sub a couple of weeks ago.

Now things have got even worse for Kalvin, believe it or not…

David Moyes addressed the media yesterday, and provided an update on Phillips, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“Kalvin Phillips kicked the back of someone’s leg in training, and we think he’s just tweaked a bit of a lower hamstring, at the back of his knee. I don’t think it’ll be long-term, but it only happened yesterday so I’m not too sure at the moment.”

I’m not suggesting that Phillips definitely would have started the game tonight. However, with Alvarez suspended, the 28-year-old Englishman definitely would have been in contention for some minutes.

So with that in mind, the midfielder’s hamstring injury really has come at the very worst time possible.

Kalvin Phillips won’t be at West Ham next season, I have no doubts in my mind about that. He has been an unmitigated disaster for us, and his latest injury just sums up his time at the London Stadium in a nutshell.
