“Just Not Good Enough” | Hammers Defender Close to Exit. West Ham Academy defender Luizao is on the verge of leaving the club, according to reports from ExWHUEmployee on The West Ham Way.
The Brazilian centre-back, who joined The Hammers from São Paulo in 2023, has struggled to progress towards the first team. Frustrated with his lack of opportunities, Luizao is now looking to reignite his career elsewhere.
Many fans believe the young defender was never truly given a fair shot at West Ham, having been limited to academy football since his arrival. It’s hard to argue with that perspective, given his absence from the senior squad.
However, the fact that he has been overlooked by three successive managers, despite numerous defensive injury crises, speaks volumes. I have personally watched Luizao play live on three occasions, and he has never convinced. The last time I saw him, he played alongside the recently injured Forbes and Kaelan Casey, and Luizao was nowhere near their level.
In essence, the Brazilian has failed to kick on and is simply not good enough for Premier League level and is his career has stagnated.
According to ExWHUEmployee, Luizao is in advanced talks to join Polish side Pogoń Szczecin. Both loan and permanent moves have been discussed, with the player eager to secure regular first-team football.
“Brazilian Academy defender Luizao is in talks to join Polish side Pogoń Szczecin,” Ex reported. “Despite his young age, Luizao has a wife and kids and wants to settle somewhere to advance his first-team career. The Polish transfer window closes on Monday, and the move is expected to be finalised soon.”
This potential exit could see Luizao finally get the first-team opportunities he craves, giving him a fresh start in Poland
