Journalist tells West Ham player to ‘Get out’, he has no future at club

Danny Ings needs to ‘get out’ of West Ham United, he has no future at London Stadium

Paul Brown has said that Danny Ings needs to “get out” of West Ham United as the striker doesn’t have a future at the London Stadium.

The English striker has struggled since joining David Moyes’ side from Aston Villa last January and hasn’t scored a goal in any competition since April, with Michail Antonio the Irons’ preferred number nine so far this season.

Ings has played in the Europa League but his performances have been widely criticised as he doesn’t seem to fit West Ham’s style of play and former Daily Star journalist Brown believes it would be best for both parties to cut ties in January.

Speaking to Give Me Sport (2 November) Brown said: “I think Danny Ings realises from how it’s gone at West Ham that he’s going to need to get out because he’s never really been used in the way that gets the best out of him. He’s not a lone striker. He can’t really play the same sort of game that Michail Antonio does.

“They’re very different. Ings likes to feed off a frontman, and he’s not going to get that in West Ham’s current setup. So I think he knows that if he wants to play regular minutes in the Premier League, which he does at his age, he’s going to need to find a new club. I don’t think West Ham would stand in his way, to be quite honest.

“He’s not done enough for West Ham to suggest that he’s got much of a future there and I think it’s probably best for all parties if he leaves.”

    For the best

It has been clear for some time now that Ings isn’t the sort of striker that West Ham need to progress under Moyes in the future and like Gianluca Scamacca before him, it is best for him and the Irons if he moves away from the London Stadium this January.

His three Premier League goals last season had some supporters worried that they may not have recruited the best forward for their style of play, but that was forgiven as he’d arrived at the club mid-season and would likely improve this year.

But there has been little to suggest that he is developing into a Hammers number nine and he doesn’t have the trust of Moyes who has only used him sparingly in the league and didn’t even use him in West Ham’s Carabao Cup win over Arsenal.

The question for Moyes and those above him at the London Stadium is who would fit their style of play as a forward? Neither Ings nor Scamacca have been right for Moyes’ system and they cannot afford to sign yet another flop and be forced to start Antonio week in and week out.
