Jeff Stelling reacts as Kalvin Phillips tipped to be West Ham United ‘hero’ v Tottenham
Jeff Stelling has reacted to a West Ham fan’s claim about Kalvin Phillips ahead of the game against Tottenham on Tuesday (2 April).
The host read out the supporter’s message on talkSPORT on Monday (1 April, 07:32am), where they claimed the England international would score against Spurs and “become a hero”.
But after the 28-year-old midfielder has hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons once again following the Irons’ 4-3 defeat against Newcastle United on 30 March, Stelling said he’s “not so sure he’ll play” when David Moyes’s side welcome their rivals to the London Stadium.
“You don’t become a bad player overnight, he’ll score against Spurs and become a hero,” said the West Ham fan in their message.
“I’m not so sure he’ll play against Spurs, that is the issue,” added Stelling.
Kalvin Phillips unlikely to feature for West Ham against Tottenham
It seems incredibly unlikely that Phillips could score for West Ham against Tottenham after enduring a miserable couple of months since making his loan move from Manchester City in January.
There is a good chance he won’t play in the game after giving away a penalty when he came off the bench against Newcastle.
He was then spotted after the game sticking his middle finger up at Hammers fans who had criticised his performance and that won’t have gone down well with the fanbase.

Moyes will be thinking long and hard about whether he can afford to play the midfielder against Spurs, given how short on confidence he clearly is.
It would be some story if he did manage to get on the scoresheet against the Irons’ London rivals, but he would probably just accept getting through the match without making any notable errors at this point.
