Tottenham star James Maddison has given an update on his recovery from an ankle injury.
The midfielder was forced off before half-time in Spurs’ 4-1 defeat against Chelsea, with the side yet to win a game since.
It was soon revealed that Maddison had suffered damage to his ankle ligament and would be out of action until the New Year.
His £40million move from Leicester in the summer has been dubbed as one of the signings of the season amid his pre-injury efforts.
Although Spurs fans will have to wait a little longer for his return, Maddison has insisted that his recovery is going well.
Speaking to Ben Foster for Amazon Prime Video Sport, he said: “It’s healing well, it’s a bit of a slow burner which is obviously frustrating because like you said, I started the season so well. But it’s healing, slowly but surely.”
When asked if he has had injuries before, Maddison replied: “I’ve had a couple, this is probably the longest one I’ve had if it’s say three months, I’ve never really gone past that.
“It’s frustrating, you know what it’s like being injured, everyday is tough, especially at Spurs, the training ground has got the big window so the physio room is just looking perfectly out to the training pitch watching all the lads train and prepare for the games at the minute.
“You have that helpless feeling but it’s recovering well, it’s one of them, it’s going to take a bit of time, you’ve got to just accept it and then crack on with the rehab.”
Foster then asked if a return would be on the cards in around six or seven week’s time, and Maddison said: “Yeah, something like that.”
Maddison was in excellent form before the visit of Chelsea as he scored three goals and assisted five in 11 Premier League appearances.
He was substituted just before half-time against the Blues as Spurs fell to their first league defeat of the season.
They were then beaten 2-1 by Wolves and Aston Villa to make it three consecutive losses.
But Spurs’ losing streak was ended on Sunday though when they drew 3-3 against Manchester City thanks to Dejan Kulusevski’s late equaliser.
It remains to be seen when Maddison will exactly be back but if six to seven weeks is the right timeframe, he could return in their home clash against Brentford towards the end of January.
