Jamaican newspaper reacts to Antonio display as West Ham star features overnight

Jamaica newspaper reacts to Michail Antonio after West Ham United star plays v Dominican Republic. West Ham United forward Michail Antonio has been slammed for his lack of goals for Jamaica after a 1-0 win against the Dominican Republic (6 June).

The Hammers star started the clash in Kingston up front but was unable to get on the scoresheet across the full 90 minutes.

He was able to make a somewhat positive impression although it was greatly frustrating to the Jamaica Observer (6 June) that he hadn’t scored.

They said: “Tried to make things happen and put in an industrious shift. Found himself in deep positions for much of the game but that meant Jamaica lacked something in the box. He needs more goals.”

This is arguably reflective of his time in recent seasons at the London Stadium where his goal scoring prowess has been somewhat lacking.

Michail Antonio slammed while away from West Ham

The West Ham man hasn’t scored a goal since the draw at the London Stadium against Liverpool which was his sixth Premier League goal of the season [FotMob].

While playing for his country against the Dominican Republic his performance was characteristic with the press describing him as “industrious”.

This is what made him a favourite under David Moyes as he was one player who you could guarantee would put in a shift.

With that being said, on the international stage that alone might not be enough as the Reggae Boys prepare for the Copa America.

Strike partner Shamar Nicholson scored despite having nearly half the number of touches of Antonio on the day.

Michail Antonio couldn’t make much of an impact for West Ham, with three midfielders instead scoring against Luton.

Ahead of the new Premier League season, the Hammers forward may have to make a good impression to feature regularly under Julen Lopetegui. The Jamaican will have the chance to bounce back with a goal against Dominica (9 June) in another World Cup qualifier clash.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are at risk of looking silly after the latest Tim Steidten summer transfer find.
