Jacob Steinberg piles the pressure on Lopetegui with damning claim after Bournemouth draw

Jacob Steinberg piles pressure on Julen Lopetegui with damning claim after West Ham’s draw with Bournemouth

West Ham United drew 1-1 with Bournemouth in the Premier League on Monday night.

Without context, it was a decent point for West Ham – Bournemouth is a tough place to go after all. And the fact that we’re languishing down in 14th spot in the Premier League table proves that.

Lopetegui was said to be given some leeway by the board before the Bournemouth clash, due to the Cherries’ quality. Seriously, that’s a depressing thought isn’t it.

I strongly feel that the 58-year-old is a terrible fit for our club, and the longer he remains in charge, the worse things will get.

Pressure on Julen Lopetegui after Bournemouth vs West Ham draw

The Spaniard has failed to implement a discernible playing style since taking over at the London Stadium. I really don’t see any difference from the football we played last season to what’s being offered up now.

Lopetegui has to shoulder the blame for that. He has been here for more than five months now, and was sufficiently backed in the summer transfer window.

Jacob Steinberg absolutely hit the nail on the head with his assessment of the Hammers’ draw with Bournemouth.

The Guardian journalist took to his X account on Monday night, and left Lopetegui with nowhere to hide:

West Ham are at least grinding out results here and there. Decent first half, good point, but no real pattern to their football.

    This is absolutely spot on.

West Ham’s tactics under Lopetegui appear to be hoof the ball forward to Mohammed Kudus or Jarrod Bowen and see if they can make something happen.

The football being served up by Julen Lopetegui is absolutely dire, and I didn’t see any improvements during West Ham’s draw with Bournemouth.

Sure, the players seemed to put in more effort, but that should be a given shouldn’t it?

I just can’t see Lopetegui lasting beyond the end of this year. With games against Brighton and Liverpool to come in our next three, the end could be nigh for the Hammers boss.
