‘It was crazy’ – Van de Ven makes admission about Tottenham Hotspur fans

Micky van de Ven admitted that he was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere he encountered at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in his first home game for Spurs.

The atmosphere at Tottenham’s home ground had got quite toxic towards the end of last season, with one often hearing moans and groans from the home crowd at the team’s refusal to take the game by the scruff of the neck.

In contrast to Antonio Conte’s counter-attacking approach, Ange Postecoglou has the team playing on the front foot, with Spurs now committing a lot of bodies in the final third.

The style of play has stuck a chord with the fans, with the atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium being quite electric in both of the club’s home games so far.

The fans were fully behind the team against Sheffield United on Saturday even when the side went 1-0 down and the roof came off the stadium when Spurs turned the result around in dramatic fashion.

Micky Van de Ven was blown away by the Spurs fans

Van de Van has now opened up on what he thought about the noise in N17 when he made his home debut for the club.

“Then we came on the pitch and everybody was singing and I was like ‘what is going on here?! – it was amazing. You want to enjoy the moment so much, but because I was so focused on the game I couldn’t really take it all in.

“But when I saw the video afterwards, you just felt it in the team and the stadium – it was crazy! The atmosphere is incredible and the fans are really good, I hear them singing my song which is really cool and something I enjoy as a player.”

Tottenham’s home support can be notoriously fickle, with groans often being heard, especially when we fail to put away the teams we are expected to beat. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the fans were fully behind the team on Saturday even when the Blades took the lead, which shows how much everyone has brought into Postecoglou’s project.

Spurs fans are seemingly over the moon to see the team play on the front foot again after enduring three years of turgid football under the previous managers.
