‘INCREDIBLE’: MICHAEL OWEN STUNNED BY WHAT TOTTENHAM WERE DOING IN STOPPAGE-TIME V ARSENAL

Michael Owen lauded Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur for the ‘bravery’ they showed against Arsenal on Sunday.

In the dying moments of the game, you would expect the home team to be out on top and pushing for the winner.

And whilst Arsenal were trying to secure the three points, they were being matched by this newly-formed and attack-minded Tottenham side.

In stoppage-time, Michael Owen noticed ‘six’ Tottenham players bombing forward, and he stated that it was ‘incredible’ from Ange Postecoglou to use such tactics at the Emirates, as he told Premier League Productions (24/09/23 at 7:10 pm).

In years gone by, whilst Tottenham have had trophy-winning managers in their dugout, it’s a tactic that just hasn’t worked, with the defensive style of these managers also being an issue.

Well, put aside the fact that Tottenham are unbeaten during these early exchanges, it’s the front-foot nature they are playing with that is impressing everyone.

    Tottenham’s style of play

“Literally as the referee blew his whistle at the end of the game, there were six bodies and one within another second or two that was arriving.

“It’s just incredible, away at the Emirates. I love what the new manager is doing. I love that, before the game, Postecoglou said ‘we will learn nothing if we just sit back’. I truly believe that.

“If you are going to improve as a team and you are Tottenham, and your ambitions are to be a very good team, then you can’t just go and sit back behind the ball in every single game you play. You have got to take risks.

“You might get beaten once or twice by a big scoreline. That’s how you improve and learn. – I love his bravery and I thought Tottenham were really brave and deserved the point.”

    Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham

Towards the back end of last season, as Spurs were crumbling, there were calls from fans for Mauricio Pochettino to be brought back given that he was available at the time.

Well, given how the former Spurs boss has started life at Chelsea and how Ange Postecoglou has begun at Hotspur Way, then it was the right call not to go back.

From the way the former Celtic boss addresses the media, the style of play he has brought to the club, the bravery and freedom.

It has got everyone onside at Tottenham, who more than deserved their point at Arsenal on Sunday, and if they started the game better, then they probably would have won it.
