Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro is in for a tough afternoon against Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku.
That is the view of former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, who has been speaking to The Sun about Tottenham’s trip to face City today.
Few will be giving Tottenham a chance of claiming victory at the Etihad Stadium this afternoon.
Ange Postecoglou is still dealing with a number of absences right now and Tottenham head into the game after three straight Premier League defeats.
Harry Redknapp comments on Pedro Porro v Jeremy Doku
City will be heavy favourites for this one and former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp seemingly isn’t holding out much hope.
Redknapp has told The Sun that Tottenham have a ‘pretty thankless task’ as they head to Manchester.
Redknapp drew particular attention to the battle between Tottenham right back Pedro Porro and City wide man Jeremy Doku.
The Belgian has dazzled since joining City from Rennes in August and completed a ridiculous 12 dribbles against Liverpool last weekend.
Redknapp admitted that he already feels sorry for Porro even though he has ‘done alright’ for Tottenham in 2023.
Redknapp believes that Doku is different to most modern-day wingers and will give Porro a torrid time this afternoon with his pace and direct style a real problem.
“There aren’t many games now when the full-back gets put under any serious, sustained pressure. Players are more intent on a safe pass and keeping possession than running at their opponent and trying to be positive,” said Redknapp.
“But in Doku, Pep has a player who thinks the opposite. Someone who is killing defenders, in a football sense, every time he gets the ball.”
“I feel sorry for Pedro Porro, who will be the one in his firing line today when Tottenham are at the Etihad. Porro’s done alright in his first season in England but he will have his hands full this afternoon. To be honest, it looks a pretty thankless task all round for Spurs,” he added.
Tottenham defender Porro has point to prove against Manchester City
This game will mean a lot to Porro given his history with City.
Porro joined City from Girona back in 2019 but never made a first-team appearance for Pep Guardiola’s side.
The right back went out on loan to Valladolid and Sporting before joining the Portuguese side permanently in 2022.
Tottenham were hugely impressed and snapped him up in a £44million package deal earlier this year.
Porro will now be desperate to show that City were wrong for not giving him a chance – and shutting down Doku would be some way to prove his worth at the Etihad Stadium.
