‘His Mistake’ – King slams Tottenham ace who was ‘completely responsible’ for loss v Man City

‘His Mistake’ – King slams Tottenham ace who was ‘completely responsible’ for loss v Man City Guglielmo Vicario ‘completely responsible’ for Tottenham defeat v Manchester City – Spurs Expert

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome aboard our brilliant new columnist Bryan King, the former goalkeeper who spent six years as a senior scout at Spurs and 28 years in total in first-team scouting roles. Bryan also spent eight years on Everton’s recruitment team and 11 years scouting at Aston Villa across two different spells.

Ex-Tottenham scout Bryan King feels Guglielmo Vicario was “responsible” for Spurs’ defeat against Manchester City.

Ange Postecoglou’s side were knocked out of the FA Cup in the fourth round as Manchester City claimed a 1-0 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Friday 26 January.

Nathan Ake’s 88th-minute winner was City’s first goal at Spurs’ new ground on what was their sixth visit, with Vicario failing to claim Kevin De Bruyne’s inswinging corner.

It appeared that the goalkeeper had been impeded, which led to furious protests from the Spurs players, although King was not in agreement with the player’s suggestions.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “I am beginning to think Vicario might not be the best goalkeeper in the Premier League as I have previously suggested after all, I mean he was completely responsible for the goal.

“You saw all game what Manchester City were trying to do, somebody was always on him at corners and when the ball came into the box why he didn’t get a two-fisted punch on it I cannot work out. I have said before that Vicario worries me on crosses, he doesn’t dominate his box, and City had clearly done their homework.

“The ball is curling in toward the near post, you’re under pressure from the opposition, you have got to punch, there is no point trying to catch. He suggested he was impeded but it was his mistake, completely down to him, he flapped at the ball and he did not deal with the situation correctly as a Premier League goalkeeper.

“Another thing I was disappointed with was when you watched Stefan Ortega, who is the number two at City, and Vicario, you could see who was more comfortable with the ball around his feet and that was Ortega. Vicario looks a bit flustered when the ball is around his feet.”

In other Tottenham news, one 88 per cent Spurs ace still has room to improve despite a BBC Sport pundit issuing a “best” in the Premier League verdict.
