‘He’s said it three times’: Pundit says Arne Slot has said something about Tottenham that’s just not true

Arne Slot has been the talk of the town in recent weeks, and an interesting claim has now been made on some of his previous comments about Tottenham Hotspur.

The Dutchman is all set to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

The Reds have been linked with about a dozen managers over the last three months, but after a lot of thought, Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes have picked Slot.

The 45-year-old, who won the Eredivisie title last season and the Dutch Cup this time around, is a tremendous football manager who is highly rated by everyone in Europe.

Filling Klopp’s shoes at Anfield will not be easy, but Liverpool are set to put their trust in Slot, and it will be interesting to see how he fares.

Almost a year before the Reds came into the picture, Tottenham wanted to appoint Slot as their manager, but a deal collapsed. One interesting detail about that failed move has now emerged.

Pundit says what Arne Slot has said about Tottenham is not true

Tottenham Hotspur were on the lookout for a new manager last summer.

Antonio Conte had left the club in a bit of a mess and with Harry Kane‘s future unclear at that point, many people felt Spurs were in big trouble.

Daniel Levy had to make a decision on who would become the new manager, and Feyenoord boss Arne Slot was Tottenham’s top target.

A move to North London looked almost certain for the Dutchman, but just when it seemed like everything was done, it collapsed.

Slot stayed and signed a new contract at Feyenoord, and he claimed that Champions League football was the decisive factor in his decision to snub a move to Spurs.

The 45-year-old apparently has claimed on three different occasions that he was the one who turned down a move to Tottenham, but Dutch pundit Henk Spaan says otherwise.

The presenter claimed on the Hard Gras podcast that it was Feyenoord director Dennis te Kloese who rejected Tottenham’s offer, and Spurs then refused to pay more.

That’s the reason the deal collapsed.

Spaan said: “So he’s said that three times (that he snubbed Tottenham), but Spurs stopped negotiating. Dennis te Kloese thought it was a worthless offer

“Slot is now acting as if he pulled the plug, but that is simply not the case. Tottenham Hotspur just didn’t want to pay more.”

Ange Postecoglou’s stats this season compared to Arne Slot

After the deal to appoint Arne Slot failed to materialise, Tottenham decided to bring in Ange Postecoglou from Scottish giants Celtic.

Many people questioned whether the Aussie was the right man for the job because he had zero experience in any top European league.

However, Postecoglou has completely transformed Tottenham, and no Spurs fan is even thinking about Slot after how well their current boss has done.

Now, with Slot set to become Liverpool’s next manager, let’s have a look at how his stats this season compare to Postecoglou’s at Tottenham.
