Joe Cole blown away by West Ham United star Tomas Soucek live on TNT Sports after what he did v Backa Topola
TNT Sports pundit Joe Cole was blown away by West Ham United star Tomas Soucek after his crucial goal gave the Hammers a much-needed win over Backa Topola on Thursday.
The Czech Republic international netted a late winner and his fifth goal in as many games in all competitions as West Ham secured their place in the Europa League knockout stage in Serbia (30 November).
It had been a turgid display from David Moyes’ side with only one shot on target until Soueck met Maxwel Cornet’s delicious cross from the wing and Cole was left stunned at how much of an impact Soucek is making currently for the Hammers.
Speaking live on TNT Sports (30 November, 7:40pm), he said: “Tomas Soucek is a player playing to his attributes. He is a very good finisher. He is on flames.
“He turns up at the big moments and he’s one of them players when you’re going out for a big game of football and you know the chips are down, you can rely on him to be there or thereabouts for all the important moments.”
Say what you want about Soucek’s technical deficiencies in possession and while those criticisms may well be justified, nobody can take away his clinical and decisive influence when West Ham United need goals.
Right now, the Czech international is producing big moments like he’s a seasoned and devastating striker and given David Moyes’ struggles to find a consistent presence in front of goal, Soucek is pulling the rug over those long-term issues.
Five goals in his last five games in all competitions, including crucial winners against Nottingham Forest and Burnley in recent weeks and now this winner against Backa Topla certainly now makes him an undroppable commodity in the West Ham United team.
Despite what’s been a poor season until recently for the Czech midfielder, with some fans calling for his exit from the starting XI, Soucek has come to the rescue once more and it seems as if he’s now firing on all cylinders which can be only great news for Moyes and his team.
Every team of West Ham’s calibre need a player of Soucek’s ilk and it’s no wonder why Moyes is desperate to secure his long-term future in East London.
