HEREFORDSHIRE football star Jarrod Bowen faces a nervous wait to find out if he has earnt a place in England’s squad for the European Championship.
The 27-year-old who started his career with Hereford United is part of England’s provisional 33-man squad which will be reduced to 26 for the tournament. Bowen played the full match as England beat Bosnia on Monday night and almost scored his first goal for his country.
With the goalkeeper beaten the West Ham winger saw his effort blocked by England defender Ezri Konsa, before Harry Kane netted the rebound. “Every game you play for England, you learn from it and gain confidence,” said Bowen.
“I’ve been in these positions before with squads. I feel at bit more mature as a player now, I’ve had a few more opportunities and gained confidence from it.
“I take every challenge head on. That is when I’m at my best, when I’m playing with no fear.”
England need to submit their 26-man squad to UEFA on Friday. The FA have said that their squad will not be announced until Saturday.
This will be after England face Iceland at Wembley in their final warm-up match. following the Iceland game.
It is believed that England boss Gareth Southgate is likely to reduce his attacking options going into the tournament.
During England’s friendly against Bosnia the West Ham forward played on the wing.
“The striking options that we have are elite,” Bowen added. “You look at Harry Kane, Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney.
“I know my position. I’ve played out on the wing all my career.”
