‘He won’t be at West Ham next year’ – Exclusive: Senior man tells friends he’s on his way

David Moyes has told friends he does not expect to be manager of West Ham next season, sources have told Football Insider. The Scotsman’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign and he has not held talks with the club regarding a new deal.

It is believed that he has told his camp that he “won’t be at West Ham next year” as he has had no signals from club chiefs they want him long-term.

The Irons board are also assessing potential candidates to replace Moyes just months after he steered them to their second-ever European trophy with their Conference League win last season – their first in any competition for 43 years.

Moyes’ public stance is that he is comfortable with his contract position and that he is just focused on building upon an encouraging first half of the season.

The 60-year-old has taken the club to new heights during his second spell at the helm but a major section of the fanbase wants him to be replaced amid accusations of cautious and defensive football.

West Ham have had some mixed results this season with embarrassing defeats including losing 5-1 against Liverpool in the League Cup and 5-0 to Fulham in the league coming after huge wins against Tottenham and Arsenal.

Their 2-0 victory over his former side Man United on Saturday (23 December) means they went into Boxing Day sixth in the Premier League table with 30 points.

Moyes has also successfully taken the club to the knockout rounds of the Europa League as Group A champions after winning five of their six games.

West Ham next face the Gunners in the league on Thursday (28 December) at the Emirates.

In other news, Sources: West Ham set sights on Eddie Nketiah after £40m bid update.
