‘Have a feeling’: Paul Merson predicts the scoreline for Crystal Palace vs Tottenham

Paul Merson predicts the scoreline for Crystal Palace vs Tottenham on Sunday. Tottenham Hotspur travel to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace in what promises to be an intriguing game of football.

Ange Postecoglou’s side recovered from their 3-2 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion with successive wins against West Ham United and AZ Alkmaar after the international break.

Palace, on the other hand, have struggled this season and are 18th in the Premier League standings with just three points from eight games.

TBR Football exclusively revealed earlier this week that Palace are considering alternatives to Oliver Glasner, who has thus far been unable to spearhead his team to the heights they hit during the second half of last season. Despite Palace’s current form, Paul Merson feels they can get something out of this game due to Tottenham’s inconsistency.

Paul Merson predicts a draw between Tottenham and Palace

Tottenham have notched up four wins, a draw and three defeats in the Premier League this season and blown hot and cold far too much for Postecoglou’s liking. Merson believes the result of this game would depend on which Spurs side shows up on Sunday – the one that threw away a two-goal lead against Brighton or the one that dispatched West Ham 4-1 last week.

“I have a feeling Crystal Palace will find it difficult against Tottenham this weekend,” wrote Merson in his column for Sportskeeda. “But I’m fully aware that it also depends on what Tottenham turn up for the game. I don’t mean it horribly, but sometimes they get a bit ‘Spursy’. That’s the problem with them at the moment.”

“I watched Spurs’ first half against Brighton and I thought, ‘wow, they could actually give teams a real go in the race for the top four’. We all know what happened after that.

Palace desperately need a result to climb out of the relegation zone and Merson thinks they’ll get at least a point as he predicted a 2-2 draw. He continued: “On their day, Tottenham are a really good team. They should show that more often on a consistent basis.

“This is a difficult game for Spurs and I think they’ll share the spoils in a good, entertaining contest.”

    Tottenham’s head-to-head record vs Palace

Tottenham won the corresponding fixture 2-1 last season and also secured a 3-1 win at home. They have largely dominated this fixture over the years and have lost just once against Palace in the Premier League in their last ten meetings.
