Kai Havertz set to break Robin van Persie’s Arsenal record against Southampton

Kai Havertz is eyeing an Arsenal record set by Robin van Persie as the Gunners welcome Southampton on saturday

Kai Havertz has a golden opportunity to etch his name into Arsenal’s history books this weekend when the Gunners take on Southampton at the Emirates Stadium. The German international is just one goal away from equaling Robin van Persie’s record of scoring in seven consecutive home matches, a feat that has stood for over a decade reports Justarsenal.com.

Havertz, fresh off a Player of the Match performance in Arsenal’s 2-0 Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain, has been in scintillating form at the Emirates. His goal against PSG marked his sixth consecutive home strike, putting him on the brink of matching Van Persie’s iconic streak.

The 25-year-old forward, who endured a slow start following his 2023 transfer from Chelsea, has recently become one of Mikel Arteta’s most consistent performers. His current form has energised Arsenal fans, with many hopeful that Havertz can not only match but surpass the club record in the coming weeks

Since arriving in North London, Havertz has scored 19 goals and provided eight assists in 60 appearances. While those numbers may seem modest at first glance, his recent form tells a different story. In 2024, Havertz has been directly involved in a goal or assist every 128 minutes across all competitions, a marked improvement from his early days at the club. In the Premier League, that figure improves further to one every 105 minutes.

This recent uptick in productivity has seen Havertz become a crucial part of Arsenal’s attack, particularly in the absence of captain Martin Ødegaard. His growing partnership with Leandro Trossard has been key to maintaining Arsenal’s momentum as they push for Premier League glory.

Havertz’s next opportunity to equal Van Persie’s record comes this Saturday when Arsenal host a struggling Southampton side at the Emirates. The Saints’ defensive frailties this season present the perfect stage for Havertz to continue his remarkable home form

If he finds the net against Southampton, Havertz will have the chance to break the record outright in Arsenal’s next match against Shakhtar Donetsk. Reflecting on his form at the Emirates, Havertz said, “It just feels like home to me. The atmosphere is great, the support is great. When the game goes against you, the fans’ support is so important. We feel that on the pitch, and it gives me a lot of confidence.”

With five goals and one assist in nine appearances so far this season, Havertz is playing some of the best football of his career. His adaptability and intelligence on the pitch have drawn praise from Mikel Arteta, who has relied on the German to step up in key moments.

Having contributed to Arsenal’s continued success, Kai Havertz is on track to surpass his numbers from his Chelsea days, where he managed 32 goals and 12 assists in 139 appearances. His improved confidence and consistent performances make him one of Arsenal’s most valuable assets as they aim to maintain their title challenge.
