Carl Jenkinson has been on the lookout for new opportunities since leaving Newcastle Jets at the end of April

Former Arsenal and England defender Carl Jenkinson has joined League Two newcomers Bromley as reported b Daily star.

The 32-year-old has returned to England after a spell with Australian side Newcastle Jets. Jenkinson began his career at nearby Charlton, where he worked with Bromley boss Andy Woodman.

He joined the gunners in 2011 and also had stints with west ham, Birmingham and Nottingham Forest. Jenkinson’s solitary England cap came in November 2012, as a substitute against Sweden.

Jenkinson had been a free agent and kept himself fit through the PFA’s programme for players without club

“I didn’t know about it until about five weeks in. It was just through word of mouth.,” he admitted. “One of the lads I was training with on my own, who used to play for Brentford, Charlie Goode, who’s now at Stevenage – he just said to me one day as we were doing a session with a coach ‘have you heard about this PFA programme?’

“I didn’t know anything about it. He said ‘I’ll send you over the details tonight’ and started explaining what it was all about. It was literally the next day I said ‘look, I’ve read through all the details, it sounds unbelievable,’ It’s exactly what we need

“I said ‘Chaz, you need to be there as well’. So we both, literally the day after, went up there.”

The move paid dividends and he will be hoping to hit the ground running with his new club, who sit 18th in League Two. Bromley have won just twice in seven games and Woodman will be keeping his fingers crossed that Jenkinson’s arrival can shore up a backline that have conceded 11 goals in seven games.
