Craig Burley says Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Giovani Lo Celso and Oliver Skipp will get Ange Postecoglou ‘the sack’ at Tottenham Hotspur if he doesn’t get rid of them.
This comes after Tottenham were booted out of the EFL Cup on Tuesday night to fellow Premier League side Fulham, after a penalty shootout defeat. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Giovani Lo Celso and Oliver Skipp all started in the middle of the park for Tottenham – previously, only one of them have started a game under Ange Postecoglou this season.
Former Scotland international Burley made it clear, these players need to ‘get out’ because they aren’t good enough to take Spurs to the next level, as he told ESPN.
Different game, different day, different manager, same players and the same result for Spurs.
This isn’t a surprise to the Tottenham faithful because they have seen this all before, from untrustworthy defender Davinson Sanchez to slow to turn Hojbjerg in the midfield – he is a transfer target for Manchester United. “This Tottenham squad isn’t deep enough or good enough,” said Burley. “You look at that midfield. Hojbjerg, Skipp and Lo Celso. That’s only going to get you the sack, eventually.
“It just shows you. If something were to happen to Bissouma and Sarr, of course, Bentacur is to come back, who is a good footballer, at least that’s a better quality of player.
“But what came in tonight really isn’t going to cut the mustard. If he doesn’t get them out and get better players in, if it won’t be in this transfer window, then it’s going to be tougher for him.”
Postecoglou would have learned a lot
It has been rosy in the garden for Postecoglou since he walked through the doors, but this is where the door hits him right in the face.
This is where he would have learned the most, mainly about his players and who is good enough moving forward.
The 2023 summer transfer window slams shut on Friday and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Postecoglou boots many of those that played at Craven Cottage out of the door.
