‘For a mediocre player who plays for West Ham’ Hammer absolutely slaughtered away on international duty
One West Ham United player currently away on international duty has just felt the wrath of one of his country’s most famous journalists.
West Ham have numerous players currently away on international duty – a grand total of eight in fact, and I for one cannot wait until they all return to the London Stadium!
The Hammers boss David Moyes will be sweating about the fitness of all eight players, after Mohammed Kudus withdrew from the Ghana squad with a slight shoulder problem.
West Ham are currently sitting in seventh spot in the Premier League table, and we have a two-legged Europa League quarter-final clash with Bayer Leverkusen to look forward to next month.
Things are looking really good for the Hammers right now, so the last thing we need is for one of our players currently away on international duty to return to the club with some kind of fitness issue.
And whilst one of our players isn’t suffering with any injury problems, he may well return to the club with his tail between his legs…

As things stand, we’ve avoided any kind of serious problems with our players who are away with their respective nations.
However, one of our key men has been absolutely battered by someone from the national media in his homeland.
To me, the criticism from the journalist was a little harsh, especially considering the fact that our man had a really valid point…

Edson Alvarez was fairly outspoken earlier this week when it came to his omission from the Mexico starting XI for their clash with Argentina at the World Cup back in November 2022.
Highly regarded Mexican football journalist Jose Ramon Fernandez did not hold back in his criticism of Alvarez in response to the West Ham midfielder’s recent comments on former national team boss Gerardo Martino.
Fernandez went to town on the 26-year-old former Ajax ace, as quoted by Mexican outlet Debate:
“For a mediocre player who plays for West Ham to come and attack the coach a year later does not seem right to me. Edson’s statement seems very strange to me because it gives the impression that Martino isn’t doing very well at Inter Miami now.”
Inter Miami are currently second in the MLS Eastern Conference table, but I’m not quite sure what relevance that has to Alvarez’s comments on Martino.
The former Barcelona boss is doing a fine job in charge of the MLS side, but that doesn’t mean that he didn’t underperform in his role as Mexico boss 16 months ago. One thing’s for sure, he definitely shouldn’t have dropped Alvarez down to the bench for Mexico’s second group stage game against Argentina out in Qatar.
The Hammers midfielder scored during his country’s 3-0 win over Panama in the early hours of Friday morning, and he’s set to play a key role for his nation again tonight in the CONCACAF Nations League final against the USA.
Alvarez was extremely honest with his comments on his former manager Martino whilst away on international duty but after the backlash from the Mexican press, the West Ham ace may well now be wishing that he’d kept quiet.
