First shock of deadline day | Potter bolsters midfield. Compared with the August deadline day when player were jetting in and signing hours before the window closed, we thought this January window was going to be a pale imitation. However the surprises have started early at West Ham’s recruitment centre with the overnight news of a player heading to London Stadium in a much needed boost to West Ham’s ‘stodgy’ midfield.
Grahjam Potter has made the decision may – including Claret and Hugh – have been calling for: The performance of the midfield has been so bang average in the first half of the season that there are immediate, free upgrades that can be applied by bringing back on-loan players. Potter has indeed decided to activate the ‘recall’ option and is reported to be bringing £30 million man James Ward Prowse back to West Ham.

As reported first in the Athletic overnight, West Ham’s management quite rightly see the option of upgrading Guido Rodriguez and Andy Irving as a no brainer: Presumably one or other of these two will now be allowed to leave on deadline day. Irving was the subject of a failed loan bid last week and Rodriguez has been reported as being desperate to leave.
Ward Prowse whilst by no means perfect will add depth to West Ham’s squad and much needed goal threat from corners and set pieces.
