Fabrizio Romano says if West Ham are on verge of agreeing deal with new manager

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that West Ham are not in advanced talks with any manager despite Julen Lopetegui and Paulo Fonseca both being linked with the role.

West Ham boss David Moyes looks likely to leave the London Stadium at the end of the current campaign.

With the Hammers seemingly searching for a new manager, Romano has provided an update on the hunt via his daily briefing (28 April).

The Itallian journalist wrote, “Despite reports, there is nothing close or advanced for (Julen) Lopetegui to become the new West Ham manager. Lopetegui is giving his priority to AC Milan, so let’s see how talks will continue between them.

“West Ham are taking their time to prepare candidates shortlist and then we will see.

“(Paulo) Fonseca is another name who’s been linked with the Hammers, but he’s also on the list at Marseille, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens, with nothing close or advanced at the moment.”

West Ham must take their time in the hunt for David Moyes’ replacement

As the old saying goes, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

While some of the football that the Hammers have played this season has been incredibly poor, the club and its supporters must be careful what they wish for.

It is easy to forget after some of this season’s struggles just how incredible of a job Moyes has done at the London Stadium.

During the last few years, the 61-year-old has made European football a regular occurrence in East London, and that won’t necessarily be a guarantee under new management.

Moyes has gotten the best out of his squad in recent years, and there is nothing to suggest any new manager would be just as successful.

It is therefore important that the club don’t rush into any decision, and if Moyes is to be replaced in the summer, his replacement needs to be selected carefully.
