Exclusive: Tottenham ready to agree ‘Huge’ deal

Sources: Tottenham ready to hand ignore wage structure and agree ‘huge’ Son Heung-min deal

Heung-min Son is happy to stay at Tottenham as they prepare to offer him a bumper new deal, sources have told Football Insider.

The 31-year-old is thrilled with the impact of new boss Ange Postecoglou and is keen to be part of the project he is implementing.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (22 September) that Tottenham are ready to open talks with Son over a new deal.  Itis believed they will first activate the one-year extension clause in his current deal – prolonging his current contract until June 2026.

However, a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Spurs could yet open talks with Son about a completely fresh long-term deal.

Any such agreement would likely include a pay rise to reflect his new status as club captain and would be “huge”, it is said.

That is despite the strict wage structure in place at Tottenham – in which Son is already earning the most of any senior player.

The South Korea international currently earns a reported wage of £190,000-a-week in North London.

Son is now regarded as the main man at Spurs following Harry Kane’s exit to Bundesliga winners Bayern Munich.

The 31-year-old has started in a central-forward role in the last two Premier League games, and notched a hat-trick against promoted Burnley earlier this month (2 September).

He has been at Spurs since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 for a reported £22million, scoring 148 goals in 378 games for the Londoners.

The forward’s best return in English league football came in the 2021-22 campaign when he managed 23 goals and nine assists in 35 games – and won the Golden Boot.
