Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on West Ham United defender Ben Johnson, FootballTransfers can reveal.
We are told that Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou is seeking to bolster his defensive options this summer, particularly in the full-back positions to provide cover for Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie
Johnson, a versatile full-back capable of operating on both flanks, has drawn attention from Tottenham’s recruitment team and his potential purchase is said to be influenced by a recommendation from Spurs legend Ledley King, who currently serves as an ambassador for the club. Intriguingly, the club’s former defender is also Johnson’s cousin.
Having emerged from West Ham’s academy, Johnson has showcased his adaptability across defensive roles over the past few years and he is equally proficient as a right-back, a left-back and a central defender.
However, Johnson’s future at the London Stadium appears uncertain as he approaches the final months of his current contract. Despite the club’s offer of a four-year extension, negotiations have hit an impasse, we are told, with both parties failing to reach an agreement.
We understand Johnson has already turned down two contract offers, leaving his future at the London Stadium in doubt.

Last month Johnson expressed his willingness to play a variety of roles. He said via West Ham’s official site: “I’m happy to play wherever the manager wants to put me.
“I used to play there when I was younger and I enjoy that role, but getting my bearings again in that position does take a little time. But I like to think I’m willing to learn and I can do that job. I want to fill in wherever the team needs me and do the best I can.
“I can definitely take some positives from Old Trafford. Of course, I can only do as well as the team does. I feel like there were some good performances across the group out there and, personally, I just want to keep going and enjoying my football.”
