Sources: Door opens for West Ham to sign Ekitike after new development
West Ham target Hugo Ekitike is set to quit Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain in January, sources have told Football Insider.l
It is believed that all parties have accepted it is best for the 21-year-old to depart Parc des Princes in the mid-season window.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that PSG were left “frustrated” that Ekitike was unwilling to join Eintracht Frankfurt as part of the deal to bring Randal Kolo Muani.
Instead, the forward wanted a move to the Premier League and held talks with English clubs in a bid to get his wish.
West Ham were involved in discussions over a potential deal for the youngster up until the last day of the summer window, but a move failed to materialise.
He remains at PSG but is well down the pecking order in Luis Enrique’s side.
Ekitike has played just eight minutes of action for the French giants this term and was missing from the squad as they defeated Lyon before the international break.
The right-footer only permanently signed for the Parisians in July after the obligation to buy in his original loan spell was triggered.
He spent the 2022-23 campaign at PSG, but made just 14 starts amid 32 appearances across all competitions.
The one-time Newcastle target notched four goals and four assists in those games.
Ekitike notched 11 goals and four assists in 28 games for boyhood club Stade de Reims to catch the attention of Europe’s elite.
