Ex-FIFA official cannot believe Aston Villa controversy v West Ham

Aston Villa v West Ham United footage stuns former FIFA official. Keith Hackett says it is “difficult to understand” how Aston Villa were awarded a corner in the build-up to their first goal against West Ham United.

Villa were wrongly awarded a corner when a shot went straight out of play, while Ezri Konsa also tangled with Lucas Paqueta as Amadou Onana levelled up in the hosts’ 2-1 win.

Ollie Watkins HATES ‘Someone Challenging Him’ -… Referee Tim Robinson was hailed over one decision, but former FIFA official Hackett says there can be no excuses over the major call he got wrong.

“I find it difficult to understand how a corner kick can be awarded where it is clear that the ball was kicked directly out of play by the attacking team,” Hackett exclusively told Villa News.

“The referee must have dynamic movement around the penalty area in order to achieve good viewing angles.

“You cannot guess and the flight of the ball and, with no deflection, it should have been enough to avoid a guess and the correct award of a goal kick to the defending team.

“This error then resulted in a goal to the attacking team from the incorrectly awarded corner kick.

“Where was the assistant referee? He may well have had a view of the incident but kept his flag down. It’s another poor decision that impacts on the result of the game.”

Aston Villa overcome West Ham United in FA Cup third round. Villa’s 150th birthday celebrations were heading towards a damp squib after Lucas Paqueta fired West Ham ahead early on in Graham Potter’s first game in charge.

However, Onana levelled up through that controversial goal and Morgan Rogers went on to win the cup tie soon after.

Villa can now look forward to a fourth-round tie, although Unai Emery will be first to admit that his side had a huge helping hand from the officials on the day.

In other Aston Villa news, a 25% player badly struggled against West Ham.
