“Even Tottenham Hotspur are interested” – Agent of super striker with 35 goals confirms Tottenham’s interest
Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez’s agent has confirmed Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in his client.
The Mexican international has scored 35 goals and assisted 5 in 54 appearances for the Dutch club since joining the club last summer.
In his debut season for Feyenoord, he scored 15 goals and assisted 3. This season he already has 12 goals and 2 assists in 8 games.
His incredible form has attracted interest from a number of clubs including the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea.
Now his agent has confirmed the interest from Spurs and also mentioned several other clubs that are keen on signing his client.
He told Dutch outlet Ed (via The Hard Tackle):
“Santi is one of the top ten (most coveted) players in Europe.”
“So even Tottenham Hotspur (are interested). Many clubs (want him). Milan, Inter, Napoli and Lazio. Atletico were very interested.”
Tottenham are top of the Premier League right now after an excellent start to the campaign. They are unbeaten in the league with 6 wins and 2 draws.
However, they are still without a proper number 9 after selling Harry Kane to Bayern Munich right before the start to the season.
Richarlison has been struggling ever since joining Spurs last season and still have not been able to return to his best form.
A move for the 22-year-old Mexican would certainly show a statement of intent from Spurs who if they are successful in signing him will have beaten several top clubs to his signature.
Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier has struggled for regular game time at the north London club this season.
The 29-year-old is no longer a key part of Ange Postecoglou’s first-team plans and former Premier League midfielder Danny Murphy has urged the England international to move on in January.
talkSPORT pundit Danny Murphy this week [11 October, 12.50pm) said: “He [Dier] has got himself in a situation. Obviously, with a change in manger, sometimes you find yourself out of favour, and you’ve got to cut your ties, you’ve got to go.”
Dier is still very much at the peak of his powers and he needs to play regularly at this stage of his career. With the European Championships coming up next summer, he will want to cement his place in the England starting lineup and he is unlikely to be able to do that sitting on the bench at Tottenham.
He was linked with the move away from the club during the summer transfer window as well but a move did not materialise.
It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can find a suitable destination for him during the winter transfer window.
The 29-year-old has proven himself in the Premier League over the years and he could be a useful acquisition for most clubs.
Dier is versatile enough to operate as a full-back, central defender as well as a defensive midfielder. His versatility makes him an invaluable asset for clubs. His ability to slot into a back four as well as a back three will add some much-needed tactical flexibility to the side as well.
Given his situation at Tottenham, he could be available for a reasonable price in January and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
