Evan Ferguson’s honest admission after Brentford is the last thing West Ham fans need to hear

Evan Ferguson’s honest admission after Brentford loss is the last thing West Ham fans need to hear. Evan Ferguson made his debut for West Ham United against Brentford on Saturday.

Graham Potter threw Evan Ferguson into the action at half-time, after West Ham had been dominated by Brentford during the first-half of the clash at the London Stadium. It was an awful game all-round for the Hammers on Saturday in every single aspect, and the fans’ apathy shone through brightly as a blanket of silence enveloped the London Stadium.

The squad rebuild that Potter faces is clearly a huge one.

Some of the players at the club simply aren’t good enough. However, the onus is on Potter get the best out of what he currently has at his disposal.

He is supposed to be an elite coach after all. What concerns me is that he seemed to get his setup completely wrong against Brentford.

Potter has to get things right from the first whistle – a failure to do that was what cost Lopetegui his job in the end.

Evan Ferguson speaks out after West Ham defeat to Brentford

It was a really tough afternoon for the Hammers on Saturday against the Bees. The players seemed to be lost out on the pitch, and Potter clearly got his tactics wrong.

Brentford put in an extremely cohesive performance, and they showed us all the standard required to be pushing for a top 10 finish.

The Hammers are clearly miles away from competing with teams like the Bees, and that in itself is a sobering thought.

Ferguson explained how he and his teammates knew exactly what to expect from the visitors, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“It was tough work, but I think I’ve played against teams like that before, and I knew what to expect and was well prepared as we had worked on it during the week.”

So the Hammers players knew what was coming, and worked on tackling Brentford’s threats during training leading up to the game.

But they still put in a performance like the one we witnessed on Saturday? Not good enough, it’s as simple as that.

Ferguson comments should concern the West Ham fans

Before the Bees clash, we hadn’t played for 12 days remember! The players should have been fresh and raring to go, but instead they all looked dead on their feet after 60 minutes.

It was a really poor performance overall – one that lacked any kind of impetus from anyone to get on the ball and make things happen.

I actually think that Evan Ferguson was one of the few bright sparks for West Ham. He showed some really positive signs after coming on at half-time.

The 20-year-old will undoubtedly be a real asset for the Hammers this season, and hopefully beyond. That said, Potter has to extract the best out of everyone else, if we are to have any chance whatsoever of finishing inside the top 10 this term.
