Edson Alvarez received a red card in the 76th minute before Cody Gakpo struck twice to seal an emphatic win for the hosts.
The national media were effusive in their praise of Liverpool but delivered a damning verdict on West Ham, who have claimed just one victory in the English top-flight this season. The Daily Mail called the Hammers’ performance at Anfield ‘embarrassing’ and slammed Alvarez for committing a silly foul on Salah to receive his second yellow.
The midfielder also lost possession on 10 occasions in the match and won just 23 perfect of his duels. Pressure on manager Julen Lopetegui is mounting as the Irons have made a woeful start to the new campaign despite heavy backing in the summer transfer window.
