West Ham fans will be smiling from ear to ear after Edson Alvarez admission we’ve all been waiting to hear. Edson Alvarez is definitely one of the most important players we currently have at West Ham United.
West Ham brought Edson Alvarez to the London Stadium from Ajax in the summer of 2023 for around £34 million. As far as I’m concerned, Edson Alvarez is the glue that holds this West Ham team together.
His ability to receive the ball from his defenders in tight areas, and not panic in possession is crucial to our hopes of playing out from the back. With Julen Lopetegui clearly desperate to implement a new playing style, Alvarez will be vital to the Spaniard’s hopes of implementing his system successfully.
The West Ham manager is clearly a huge fan of Alvarez, and shared his disappointment earlier this summer when the Mexican midfielder picked up a hamstring injury whilst playing for his country during the Copa America. The thought of being without the former Ajax man for a sustained period of time really doesn’t bare thinking about.

So with the two-week international break now upon us, there will definitely be fans who are worried about the prospect of Edson heading off to link up with his international teammates once again. West Ham fans will love Edson Alvarez admission
The Mexico international looked to be somewhere near his best once again during our 3-1 defeat to Manchester City yesterday.
We really miss his tenacious tackling and composure in possession when he doesn’t play.
Watching him flying into tackles yesterday and snapping at the heels of the Manchester City players was a real joy.
And with that in mind, the thought of him heading off for a couple of weeks with the Mexico national team squad so soon after recovering from his hamstring injury is far from ideal.

Fear not though Hammers fans.
Alvarez spoke to WHUFC.com, and admitted that he has agreed with his country that he will remain in East London over the next two weeks.
The 26-year-old said, “It’s a decision of the national team [for me to remain in London] and they understand my situation, they understand that I just came back from a big injury,” he explained.
“So I hope to keep working, to get my best form as soon as possible.“
And breath…
Seeing Edson fly out to join his Mexico teammates for 10 days or so would have been extremely worrying. The fact that he’s remaining in East London to work on getting his fitness levels back to where they should be is a big relief.

West Ham need Edson Alvarez to be firing on all cylinders this season – he is an absolutely vital player for us.
And the fact that he isn’t heading off for international duty now is a big bonus for the Hammers. Julen Lopetegui undoubtedly enjoyed a very successful summer transfer window at West Ham United.
The West Ham head coach brought in nine new players, and got rid of much of the deadwood at the London Stadium.
Julen Lopetegui is clearly a very ambitious man indeed, and has grand plans to take West Ham to another level entirely.
I love his attitude, and the way that Julen Lopetegui was urging his West Ham players to press Manchester City high up the pitch yesterday was a pleasure to watch.
