Then there’s the cost of tops and general merchandise – some at around ninety quid a time and broadcasters dictating when fixtures are changed to inappropriate times.
Now we find ourselves at the mercy of agents holding clubs to ransom over the personal terms they want paid to teenagers who haven’t played more than a few minutes for the first team at unimportant stages of games. As we understand it Divin’s agents are playing serious hardball in the talks which have been held and want at least minimum first team wages which total around £35k a week. Sorry – that’s madness!
Declan Rice managed to get that on his contract because everybody knew where he was headed and of course he let nobody down. But Divin Mubama? Come on, that simply isn’t on regardless of how good us basically unknowing fans, may believe him to be. And remember if he gets that sort of dough the other aspiring youngsters will be looking for the same.
But this is basically about agents who have become a cancer within the game in many cases as they look to hook into huge commissions moving players on – usually on free transfers – where their fee is so much bigger.
