‘Definitely one to watch’ – Sky Sports journo adds excitement for potential West Ham new signing

Sky Sports journalist adds to excitement over West Ham United signing Jack Clarke from Sunderland – ‘Definitely one to watch’

Sunderland attacker Jack Clarke will “definitely” be “one to watch” in the January transfer window with West Ham United interested, according to James Savundra.

The Sky Sports news journalist added to the West Ham fan excitement live on air (9 January) over the Sunderland attacker who has bagged 12 goals and two assists in the Championship so far this season.

The Mirror reported on 6 January that the Hammers are interested in signing the former Tottenham attacker this month but according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, the Black Cats are under “no pressure” to sell.

Fellow Sky Sports news journalist Savundra, however, added fuel to the West Ham fire over Clarke becoming a potential new signing at the London Stadium, stating:

“Jack Clarke’s top scorer for Sunderland so far this season, he’s one of a number of players West Ham are interested in, looking at that left-forward option, not too many options there at the moment, Said Benrahma perhaps hasn’t performed as well as they would have hoped.

“It’s worth noting Sunderland aren’t panicking at this stage because Clarke still got two years left on his contract but he’s one of the players West Ham are looking at in this window and has 12 goals already for Sunderland who are trying to win Premier League promotion at the first time of asking, this is ‘definitely one to watch’”.

    Worth a try

Clarke certainly isn’t one of those talents bursting on the scene for the first time as clubs and fans were already accustomed to his tremendous gifts before his failed move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Since he joined Sunderland though, he’s taken his game to whole new levels already scoring 12 goals this season after registering a whopping nine goals and 12 assists during the 2022/23 campaign.

West Ham United are desperately short of attackers right now, with the likes of Said Benrahma, Maxwel Cornet and Pablo Fornals all linked with January exits and Clarke, given his age profile, potential, homegrown status and quality would be an ideal bet for David Moyes to pursue.

Signing homegrown Championship talents has always been the way to go at the London Stadium, just look at Jarrod Bowen since his move from Hull City back then.

Clarke is certainly the next player to emerge from the English second division and tear up the Premier League when given the opportunity. There may be no better club for Clarke to continue his rapid rise than the mighty West Ham United.

With Moyes currently suffering from an injury crisis right now at the London Stadium, this Clarke interest really is the one to watch in East London and it may not even take a big-money offer to prize away the Englishman this month.

Should a January move prove difficult, West Ham United should definitely have him at the top of their wishlist for the summer window.
