‘Deal done’ – West Ham flop offered Premier League lifeline in blow to Fulham and Everton

‘Deal done’ – West Ham flop offered Premier League lifeline in blow to Fulham and Everton. Toby Bryant. The England international will look to get his career back on track with the newly promoted Premier League side. West Ham flop Kalvin Phillips is set to be handed another chance at Premier League success by Ipswich Town following a thoroughly underwhelming loan stint at the London Stadium last term.

The Manchester City midfielder, who cost the Champions a huge £42 million from Leeds United in 2022, has struggled for playing time under Pep Guardiola. Phillips completed a temporary switch to the Hammers in January in a bid to find form ahead of Euro 2024.

Speaking about the loanee after he appeared to make an offensive gesture towards supporters following defeat to Newcastle United, Moyes said: “Kalvin is a human being and can do things we all do at different times. What he needs is support behind him, people to help him, and we’re going to stand with him, help him as much as we possibly can.

“Obviously, we need all our supporters to give all our players, whoever it is, their support. He’s fine. He’s back training. We’ve all moved on from the weekend and we’ve got a big game coming up. “Kalvin Phillips is a really good player, an international player, an excellent footballer and I do believe we can still make something out of the time we’ve got left with him here.”

The 28-year-old made just 10 appearances for West Ham but is now set to be handed a lifeline by newly promoted Ipswich Town. The BBC reports that Phillips is going to sign a season-long loan switch to Kieran McKenna’s side.

The player had travelled with Manchester City for their pre-season camp in the United States and was even deployed as a centre-back as Guardiola tested a new system. Phillips didn’t make an appearance in the Community Shield victory over Manchester United.

The Mail reports that Everton and Fulham had also been looking at a deal for Phillips but that it is the Tractor Boys closing in on completing the loan switch, in a move that will be a coup for the side. Phillips will join former West Ham teammate Ben Johnson at Portman Road after the full-back arrived as a free agent this summer.
