West Ham were said to have bid for Fofana this summer. The Hammers and the Toffees had been linked with a summer move for the former Burnley loanee. West Ham and Everton summer transfer target David Datro Fofana has secured a late move to AEK Athens in a bid to gain playing time away from Chelsea this season.
The 21-year-old forward had been linked with Premier League sides including the Hammers during the transfer window after a loan spell at Burnley last term. The Clarets endured a torrid return to the top flight, which ultimately ended in relegation, but Fofana did manage to hit the back of the net four times in just 879 minutes for the side.
Those goals included a brace a 26-minute brace against Fulham and a goal away at West Ham in March. Julen Lopetegui was in the market for a new striker during the summer and were reported to have tabled a £12.6 million bid for Fofana in July by AfricaFoot, before signing Niclas Fullkrug from Borussia Dortmund.
Everton were also linked with the Chelsea youngster and GiveMeSport reported in September that the Toffees had been offered the player as part of a loan swap for Dominic Calvert-Lewin. That proposal was turned down by the Merseyside outfit.
The player has now got his transfer having not featured in any of Chelsea’s opening fixtures of the campaign, securing a loan move to AEK Athens. The Greek club will have an option to make that move a permanent deal for £20 million next summer.

The Independent reports that the deal is done with just paperwork remaining to be signed between the two sides. The transfer window is shit in the UK but Greek clubs can still make acquisitions until Wednesday, which helps Chelsea in their quest to trim down their squad.
The Blues paid £8.4 million to bring Fofana to Stamford Bridge in January 2023 and are set to part ways with the striker after just a year and a half on the books in London. Fofana, who made three Premier League and one FA Cup appearance for Chelsea during the 2022/23 campaign, would represent a healthy profit if sold for £20 million come the end of the campaign.
