David Moyes in sudden Jarrod Bowen U-turn on eve of Man United clash and it proves West Ham fans right

David Moyes has made a sudden Jarrod Bowen U-turn on the eve of the Man United clash and it shows West Ham fans right.

West Ham welcome Manchester United to the London Stadium on Saturday lunchtime looking to get back on track after the Liverpool mauling.

The Hammers disgraced themselves in that game. But one man who did come out – as usual – with his head held high was Jarrod Bowen.

And David Moyes will need Bowen to continue his fine form when Man United come to town.

Undoubtedly well on his way to being West Ham’s Hammer of the Year, Bowen has been used in the striker role by Moyes this season.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag will be preparing his side to face Bowen in the striker role.

Especially given West Ham’s serious lack of quality in depth up front beyond the former Hull man, who himself will not always be effective as the main striker and may be better suited to the right-hand side for some games.

For that reason many West Ham fans feel the club simply must bring in a new top level striker next month.

West Ham and Man United are said to be in a battle to sign Stuttgart’s 18-goal forward Serhou Guirassy in the January transfer window.

But West Ham’s manager has recently stated he does not need to sign a striker because the Hammers have Bowen.

Now Moyes has made a sudden Bowen U-turn on the eve of the Man United clash and it proves West Ham fans right.

Because the Scot now says he is reluctant to commit to Bowen being West Ham’s number nine and pointed out his recent goals came after switching to wide positions mid-game.

West Ham fans proved right over striker signing

“We are not quite giving him the No 9 tag but we are still saying we could play him wide or through the middle at different times in the games to ease the pressure on him,” Moyes told Mail Online ahead of Man United.

“His last two goals have come from him coming off the sides. He is doing such a good job with his goalscoring. He wants goals and looks like scoring.”

Those comments prove West Ham fans were indeed bang on when saying the club must sign a striker in January.

Injured Michail Antonio turns 34 in March and is surely in his last season with the Hammers.

Supporters also feel flop Danny Ings should be one of the first to leave in January while Divin Mubama looks like he needs to go out on loan and strengthen up.

Even if Moyes was insisting Bowen is West Ham’s main striker, they would still need to sign one in January.

Most top Premier League clubs have at least two proven top level strikers. Indeed most have three.
