“Could offer” | West Ham star to leave England in the Summer
Ben Johnson could make a shock move outside of England after his contract at West Ham expires.
As of late, it has been absolutely baffling how little minutes Ben Johnson has got. With Vladimir Coufal in some long lasting, poor form it would make sense for the 24-year-old to start getting more playing time. Even with his versatility though, Moyes rarely gives him a chance and when he does it’s usually only in the dying minutes of the game.
His lack of opportunities alongside a disagreement surrounding how much he should be earning has put contract talks on hold for now. The Hammers are expected to try again to reach a deal with him, but as it stands it seems unlikely.
Unfortunately, this means that these could be the final few games Johnson has left at his boyhood club. He has attracted interest from multiple Premier League clubs including Aston Villa and Tottenham. However, it could be a club outside of England that secure his signature, according to Football Insider.
While Scotland is hardly a move abroad, the football up there is completely different. Two clubs dominate the league every season and it’s the blue side of Glasgow that are interested in the right back.
Rangers obviously are a massive club that could offer Johnson consistent European football and they normally do quite well in those competitions. With all due respect though, you can’t help but feel he could do a bit better than playing in Scotland. He has proven time and time again that he is a Premier League quality player and, realistically, West Ham should be doing everything they can to keep him at the London Stadium.
There is no doubt that he will have a number of clubs to choose from when it comes to finding a new side. Rangers is certainly an option he should consider, but whether they can compete either financially or footballing wise with a Premier League club is highly debatable.
