Cottee shares real West Ham ‘mess’ live on talkSPORT as £1bn claim shared

Tony Cottee moots real West Ham United ‘problem’ with new £1bn claim. Tony Cottee has shared what he thinks the main “problem” has been at West Ham this season.

The Hammers have performed well below par this season and currently sit just 10 points clear of the Premier League relegation zone. Their last five Premier League games haven’t quite gone to plan either with Graham Potter’s men only emerging victorious once.

Speaking about the Hammers’ season as a whole, Cottee has shared the wider mess that has emerged behind the scenes at the London Stadium.

West Ham mutiny on cards over London Stadium board

When it was shared that Potter was likely to come in and take over from Julen Lopetegui, Hammers fans were rightfully excited about his arrival. His time at Chelsea wasn’t as well received but thanks to the strong name he made for himself with Brighton, fans were ready for the positive change.

While he was one of the main reasons behind Evan Ferguson choosing to join the Hammers, there’s a lot more behind-the-scenes work that needs fixing before any sort of on-pitch improvements are made.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (18 February, 8:10 am), Cottee shared the only thing Potter can do right now, with huge money needed to change things immediately. “The problem is, I think there’s a wider mess, I mean there’s a lot of issues with the fans and the board, they’re not happy with the board,” he said.

“But that’s ongoing unless someone unbelievably produces a billion quid or whatever it is to buy the club out, that won’t happen in the next few years. “They’ve got to get on with that, all Graham can do is concentrate on the playing side.”

Graham Potter has a lot of work to do at the London Stadium. As Cottee mentioned, there’s a lot on Potter’s plate to try and sort out before any sort of positive results are achieved consistently.

The Englishman was brought in by David Sullivan to try and turn around West Ham’s fortunes after their poor start to the campaign.

However, if he doesn’t back him and give the London Stadium outfit what they need to bolster their ranks, it’s hard to see what sort of impact Potter could make right now.

The former Brighton boss has taken over a team full of players who he didn’t choose and who, realistically, don’t fit his style of play all that well.

Players such as Aaron Wan-Bissaka have had to be shoehorned into centre-back due to the Hammers’ lack of preparation for defensive injuries which has left them with just three senior centre-backs to choose from.

Indeed, only time will tell what the future holds but at this moment in time, it’s unclear how things are going to end up by the end of the term.
