Cole Palmer achieves stunning landmark after scoring against West Ham

Cole Palmer is in action for Chelsea against West Ham United. Cole Palmer has achieved a stunning landmark after scoring for Chelsea against West Ham United. On Sunday afternoon, the Blues welcomed West Ham to Stamford Bridge as they look to close the gap to Newcastle United.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men produced a fine first-half display as goals from Palmer, Conor Gallagher and Noni Madueke scored to make it 3-0 to Chelsea.

Palmer’s goal in the 15th minute also meant he has managed a stunning feature

According to Opta Joe, who wrote on social media: “30 – One day before his 22nd birthday, Cole Palmer has become only the third player in Premier League history to reach 30+ goal involvements in a single season while aged 21 or younger (21 goals, 9 assists), after Robbie Fowler (94-95 & 95-96) and Chris Sutton (93-94). Prodigy.”

Speaking ahead of the match, Hammers boss David Moyes revealed Palmer was close to joining the club.

He said: “[We were] close, close. You can probably imagine the other part of it, where there was a possibility of somebody leaving here which might have made that work.

“I was in regular contact with his agent and we were well on the road with it but it just changed at the end and we couldn’t do it.”

Moyes added: “I watched him playing for England U21s regularly and I thought he was their standout player. I was always keen to bring in British players.

“The bigger problem was that he played in the same position as Jarrod Bowen but I had the thought about Jarrod becoming a centre-forward.

“Lee Carsley, who was one of my ex-players [at Everton] as well and the England U21 manager, was always giving me advice on their players and Cole especially. He spoke so highly about him and what he was like. We knew he could play several positions and let’s be fair, he’s been a revelation this year for Chelsea.”

star Cole Palmer was spotted in a tense incident with one of the coaching staff following the full-time whistle in their draw with Aston Villa.

After a disastrous start for the Blues, two second-half goals secured a point, but the game wasn’t short of controversy after Axel Disasi’s late winner was disallowed.

It was initially given until VAR Chris Kavanagh advised referee Craig Pawson to review the goal and a foul was given against Chelsea.

Players were furious at full-time and went straight over to confront the referee before being pushed away by members of the coaching team who came running on.

This sparked a tense incident between one coach and Palmer as the Englishman was trying to shake the hands of the officials.

He’s been far and away their best player scoring an incredible 20 goals in 29 Premier League games.

Blues fans have little to shout about given they have remained a mid-table side this season, but having a player of Palmer’s quality in their team is certainly a good sign for the future.

They currently sit five points outside the European places with a game in hand on seventh-place Newcastle, so they could make a late surge.

Mauricio Pochettino will be under huge pressure to secure Champions League qualification next season and potentially pick up some domestic silverware.

Since the arrival of owner Todd Bohely and the huge spending spree that came with it, Chelsea have had little to show for it in terms of success on the field.

Money can no longer be the answer and if he’s given time with the young group of players they have, then Pochettino could turn things around.

They face a huge derby against rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday.
