Middlesbrough want Michael Carrick talks amid West Ham United speculation as David Moyes exit talk continues
Middlesbrough want to open contract talks with Michael Carrick amid speculation linking their manager with West Ham, according to TeamTalk.
The news outlet reported on Thursday (23 November) that Carrick’s existing terms at The Riverside don’t expire until 2025 but Boro chairman Steve Gibson is keen to tie the 42-year-old down to a “new long-term deal” before this season finishes.
Worthy replacement?
Speculation seems to suggest that Moyes’ days are limited at West Ham.
It’s a massive shame because the Scot has etched his name in Hammers history with the Europa Conference League win last season. He’s also, without a doubt, been the best manager this club has had in the Premier League era of English football.
Moyes’ future seems in doubt, however.
His contract expires at the end of the season and despite the European success of last term, there are always stories appearing about how he could or should be on his way out of the London Stadium. It does seem likely that the West Ham manager will leave in the summer.
Carrick does seem like he could be a worthy replacement because he’s done well at Middlesbrough so far.
The former Manchester United midfielder and caretaker manager had had a “wonderful” start to his managerial career, according to TeessideLive journalist Craig Johns.
It’s been a long time since the ex-England international was associated with West Ham but there’s no doubt he’ll have a deep affinity for the club where he started his professional career at.
We feel he could be a huge influence on the youth players at Chadwell Heath.
